For some time I’ve been trying to find the high-quality reverb, delay and EQ effects for iOS to use with my guitar. One day I came across the AUFX effect series and immediately fell in love with the provided presets. The problem was that I could not use the rest of the app’s features with my VoiceOver screen reader.
Presets are OK but what about the rest of the app?
I was able to tap on the menu, pick a preset and start playing. However, it was not possible to adjust any controls (effect parameters) because they were not coded to respond to the screen reader gestures. As you can imagine, my creative spirit was hurt!
When I set out to compose an email to the app developer, I was preparing myself for either ” I don’t know what you are talking about” or “I am sorry but I don’t have the time to fix this” kind of response. I was surprised to receive neither. Instead, Jonatan Liljedahl who developed the AUFX effect series not only responded with enthusiastic “yes” but relatively quickly followed up with betas that contained all the VoiceOver-related fixes that I requested.
So, what was fixed?
Two things, really.
- labels for every button, slider and toggle (so that VoiceOver is able to speak the name of each onscreen element to the blind user).
sliders for effect parameters (so that it is possible to adjust them with VoiceOver screen reader).
With these changes every function of these three fabulous effects for iOS can now be operated by the user of VoiceOver

Where to get?
My creative spirit is cured once more! Thanks Jonatan!
